Over the last couple of weeks, the entire world decelerated at a dazzling pace due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are fortunate enough, this unavoidable lockdown in South Africa offers the comfort and familiarity of your own home and all the leisure time you have always wished for, but served in a completely different context. The fear for one’s health and the sensitive way in which we all try to deal with it has taken quite a while to get used to. I think for most people the distance and silence made us reconsider our interaction with each other on a deeper level.
For me the most frustrating and concerning effect of the Corona virus is the inability to perform and continue with my work even though I am healthy. Sure, I now have ample time to practise, but the hard reality of the situation is that my income instantaneously went to zero. I feel concerned for other musicians and artists and especially technical crew during this lockdown as some of my colleagues have no means of sustaining themselves financially during this crisis. I therefore urge you to support the arts in any way that is most comfortable or possible for you. When the lockdown is over and people can return to their jobs, I ask you to please go out and support concerts and shows. We all depend on it.
I wish all my friends and fans a healthy and productive experience at home for the remainder of this lockdown. Remember, you can always stream my music and with some new albums being released soon you will have a lot to look forward to.
