What an indescribable feeling it is to start booking dates for concerts again. The last few months have been the most surreal experience in any performing musician’s life, and I am glad to say I have been quite surprised by the effect of the pandemic – not only on my work, but on my mind. The inability to perform and travel and interact with people all over the world was really the most difficult thing to come to terms with. I was fortunate enough to continue with some online concerts, recording projects with my trio and be an extra in Nataniël’s new TV show recordings, so things were by no means quiet. Some new things started like an online quiz with me and conductor Richard Cock as well as creating my own profile on Patreon.com. The fans and supporters of this online platform have supported me immensely during these difficult months and to them I am eternally grateful.
I was again and again surprised by my colleagues experiencing the same bouts of depression, optimism and financial worry which filled most of my days. Never before was I on such an emotional rollercoaster. Thankfully things are slowly returning to “normal”, and not being able to accept international engagements yet have been most disappointing.
It gives me great joy to share some concerts with fans in South Africa for the remainder of 2020 and possibly my concerts planned for Switzerland at the end of this year will realise.
Music was the one constant in my life these last few months and I sincerely hope that it remains your rock – whether you need a boost of a calming effect or just a playlist to listen to whilst cooking.
My wish for you is to stay safe and remain positive. Watch this space for news about future concerts and projects.
