  • Baroqueswing: The End

At the start of every project there is that shiny, glossy new feel to it. Bright with promise and opportunity. At the end it sometimes has a more aged and withered demeanor, which can be equally appealing and speak of good memories made and a deserving effort.

At the end of each calendar year I find myself naturally looking back at what the past 12 months offered and where I would like to continue with a project and where not. In the case of my trio and our Baroqueswing series of albums and live DVD, I realised that this project is now nearing its swan-song.

It all started started in 2006 in Ernen, Switzerland and was supposed to be a single recording of our live concert, released under my own label. Baroqueswing became more popular than expected and developed a life of its own and was awarded a SAMA in 2017. This gave birth to the recording contract with Claves and the subsequent release of Baroqueswing Vol. II. Local and international tours with this music followed and audiences seem to have an insatiable thirst for this music.

Over the past 3 years I have been very happy and fortunate to work with a very loyal and dedicated team at Claves and the success of Baroqueswing Vol. II is a shining example of their input and hard work. In a competitive environment, where physical sales have long been deteriorating in favour of downloads, this crossover music have proven to be popular and thanks to Claves very accessible.

In January 2018 the last instalment will be released in hard copy as a CD and DVD box set and as a CD on digital platforms. Baroqueswing Vol. III was recorded in 2016 in Ernen and marks the end of what has been a very enjoyable project. Off course tours and concerts to promote this album and music will continue, but this will be our last endeavour down the Baroque path for now, and the last recording with drummer Hugo Radyn. I never intended to have a series of Baroque discs and concerts, but I feel very satisfied with the natural course it has taken.

The future holds some other alternatives for the CDP Trio and I am happy to perform the last concerts of Baroqueswing in 2018.
