I regularly get asked in interviews which kind of music I listen to. Easy answer: almost anything. I believe style of music is as irrelevant as gender, religion or sexual performance in the age we live in. Different strokes for different folks. There are only two types of music on this planet: Good Music and Bad Music. The style does not matter.
Here are my top five albums of all times:
- Bach Goldberg Variations performed – Andras Schiff
- The Melody at night with you – Keith Jarrett
- People – Oscar Peterson
- Rachmaninoff Symphony nr. 2 – NY Philharmonic/Maazel
- Haunted Heart – Renee Fleming
The music I listen to in the car or when I just want relax has a common emotional thread: either lush and intense or soothing and totally mellow. Because I use my ears in my job as pianist 24/7 an “ear massage” in the form of a cool recording of smoothness is my ultimate treat.
