10 Solo Recitals

In 2014 Charl du Plessis will honour his calling as a Steinway Artist and celebrate his passion for South Africa’s wealth of Steinway concert pianos with a national solo recital tour. As a doctor of music Charl du Plessis is dedicated to the solo piano recital and mastery of this intimate form of music making. His tour programme will feature works by Bach-Busoni, Rachmaninoff and Chopin in its original format as well as some jazz and contemporary piano works showcasing the versatility of the pianist and his instrument. Each hand-made Steinway concert grand is a work of art and in 2014 Charl will sit on 10 very important piano chairs next to his 10 favourite Steinways. The cities featured in the tour will include Cape Town, Johannesburg, Kroonstad, Kimberley, East London, Bloemfontein, Pretoria, Parow, Port Elizabeth and Potchefstroom. Charl’s aim is to create an awareness of the worth of these pianos and to emphasise the importance of keeping these precious instruments safe, and serviced by Steinway-trained technicians. For this reason Charl will tour exclusively with a dedicated Steinway technician from Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos to all venues in South Africa where the pianos will be prepared with expert knowledge and care.
